Saturday – Bienvenue!
Upon your arrival we will show you to your room. We will then give you a guided tour of your home for a week and provide you with your bikes and equipment for your stay. We will then serve you with a glass of Vouvray and ‘aperos’ as we take you through your itinerary for the week before sitting down for a sumptuous meal using locally sourced produce and wine.
Sunday – A trip along La Loire! Today, after breakfast, we will take you and your bikes to Langeais nestling on the side of the Loire – this town has a wonderful Sunday market. From here you will cycling alongside the river through Bréhémont to Chateau Ussé (Sleeping Beauty’s Castle). You will have the opportunity to visit and admire the views from this magnificent vantage point.
Monday – Cycle to the mediaeval town of Chinon
After a Continental breakfast you will cycle for approximately 20 minutes along quiet rural lanes to reach the new cycling path (it used to be a railway line) which runs from Chinon to Richelieu. Today you will turn left and head to Chinon with its Fortress standing high above the town and the Vienne River. Here you can spend the next few hours discovering delightful back streets, churches and visit the Fortress itself. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to sit, eat, drink and watch the world go by.
Today you have the option of cycling back to La Voyette or being picked up by us.
Your day will finish with food and wine!
Tuesday – Loire Villages Bike Tour and Wine Tasting
Today we will take you on a guided bike tour starting in Candes St Martin at the confluence of the Loire and Vienne and finishing at a wonderful old Hunting Lodge where you will have the opportunity to degust and buy wine from the small appellation of Saumur-Champigny. After an alfresco lunch sitting next to the vineyards we will meander back via a museum of a long lost local industry – where you will degust the resulting product.
Once back to base we will head home in time for a BBQ and wine.
Wednesday – The Richelieu Route
Today you will stay closer to home. Once fed and watered you will head off to join the nearby cycle path and this time you will turn right and head to Richelieu – a citadel built (as its name suggests) by Cardinal Richelieu, the second most powerful person to King Louis XIII, in the 17th Century. This small town has a square lined with a number of tabacs, bars and restaurants where you can sit and enjoy the ambience of French life. There is a beautiful church, a museum and Parc de Richelieu – all worth a visit while you are there. When you feel ready you can make the return trip but this time via Champigny sur Verde where a holy chapel (the remains of the Bourbon castle) is home to remarkable stained glass windows of the Renaissance period.
Whatever your time of arrival back at La Voyette you will have wine (by now you will know what your favourite tipple is!) and aperos waiting for you to be followed by your evening meal.
Thursday – Visiting Caves and degusting the local Chinon wines – A cycling day with Quintin
