Our two bedroom detached Gite is situated at Le Grand Ballet which is a small hamlet set in open countryside between the Loire and Vienne rivers and 6km from Chinon, a buzzing medieval town steeped in conjoined history with Great Britain (Joan of Arc, Henry II Plantagenet, Richard the Lionheart) and is also the home town of Rabelais the French author and Visionary. Here you will find many bars, restaurants and shops.
The accommodation includes a snug room and kitchen/dining room on the ground floor, a double bedroom with en suite toilet and basin and a vaulted twin bedroom on the first floor with a steeper staircase leading to the impressive bathroom in the eaves with roll-top bath, separate shower cubicle, toilet and basin. Outside there is an undercover sitting/eating area where you can enjoy alfresco living with a utility room providing you with a further shower, toilet and basin. The garden extends to nearly 2,000 m2 and the neighbouring houses have their large gardens to include a vegetable plot and fruit trees. There are quiet lanes, woods and vineyards nearby with plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and sightseeing by car. There is ample parking available. Sorry no pets. Not suitable for youth groups.
Our Chambre d’Hôte is closed until March 1st
La Voyette is a tiny hamlet almost equidistance between Chinon and Richeleau. Its traditional houses spread out from a small triangular tree lined green and the only noises you will hear are the birds, some sheep, a donkey and the tractors as the farmers go about their daily tasks.
‘Chez Nous’ is a traditionally built stone house which has a large welcoming sitting room with an inglenook fireplace housing a wood burning stove. There is also a sunny breakfast room and many eating and sitting areas outside in the garden and grounds. Use of the swimming pool is also included.
Just a couple of rooms in the house were previously used by Grandmere Leone who lived here over sixty years ago. She was frequently visited by a number of devoted grandchildren – some of them many years later have very fond and happy memories of staying here with her in what was then a very humble abode. We have been told that there were as many as 12 children staying here as she also took in refugees just after the war.
Today we have sympathetically restored these rooms and converted others to create this charming chambre d’hote. Each room has its own shower and WC.
Continental breakfast can be taken in the sunny breakfast room, outside in the garden or in the sitting room close to the wood burning stove if the weather is inclement.
Staying in our chambre d’hote, here at La Voyette, gives you the freedom to enjoy this most romantic and historic region. When you return after a day of exploring there is plenty of space with places to sit and enjoy the peace.
The option of an evening meal eaten with us and other guests is available at an extra cost.
There is ample off-road parking and undercover storage if you bring your own bikes (although these are available for hire here)
Price: Bed and breakfast is 75€ per room per night including breakfast if you simply want and come and stay.
